People write to me often confused about the subject of deliverance and their desire to understand it better. The message about the Syrophenician woman is an excellent study that reveals God’s intent of deliverance for his people. My hope is to bring understanding through the study of Jesus’s words.

Most people, even Christians in their prayer life give up. They will feel God does not want them to have what they sought Him for or that they must have done something to offend the Lord. We give up seeking the very thing that we need. I want to point out, especially with you mothers, her need drove her past that. She insisted when she told the Lord her child was sick. She knew He could heal her, deliver her. So after her first try with the Lord she did not stop.

We see the heart of God drawn toward the tender mercy of her mother. She was concerned over the state of her child. She did not come because she wanted something for herself. She may have received a different response from the Lord if it had been for herself. Maybe He would not have answered, but because she came seeking for her child, it demonstrated a part of her heart that caught the Lord’s attention.
